College is the time many teenagers and young adults explore what they are truly passionate about which pushes them on the rollercoaster to self-discovery. As a college freshman at the University of Georgia in 2008, Emily Hearn was just like everyone else, trying to figure out who she was and what she wanted to do. Before college, Hearn believed she wanted to be a writer. As she traveled through her freshman year she discovered songwriting was the best outlet for her thoughts to turn into written words that could inspire others.
Sitting in her room for hours at a time, Hearn taught herself how to play guitar on her dad’s old junky Sigma. After opening up to her college roommate and sharing herself through music, she was told her music is what people need to hear. It was so personal and in depth.
Now at 25 years old and living in Athens, GA, Hearn has released four albums: Paper Heart (2010), Red Balloon (2012), Promises (2013), and most recently Hourglass (2015) which was produced by Chad Copelin (Christina Perri, Ben Rector, Green River Ordinance). Her music still stands on a personal level, just like when she began. Through the years her music has been featured on the CW’s Jane The Virgin, ABC Family’s Switched At Birth, and in a Ben & Jerry’s commercial. If you look to her “Rooftop” music video, you’ll find a cameo by the infamous nomad comedian Bill Murray.Currently, Hearn is promoting her most recent release Hourglass by touring the country with her husband Michael Harrison, who plays an assortment of instruments and sings. The on stage connection between the two is simultaneously electric and calming. While they play, the audience members become swept up and out of this world, into one filled with meaningful stories of life, love and self-discovery once again. Hearn will be heading out in the fall of 2015 to continue promoting Hourglass with hopes to cross paths with everyone who found pieces of their life in this album.
